How to Choose your Wedding Album Images

(And Why you should Invest in Print)

Happy Thursday everyone! So I am going to quickly start off this blog post by saying, how crazy is it that I am getting married a month today!!! Like what!! It feels like we just got engaged and started this planning process and now in one month we will be saying “I Do”!

Anyways, I just needed to share that because I am in full panicked bride mode, can any of my lovely couples or brides out there relate?!

Today on the blog though what I am actually sharing about is how to choose your images for your wedding album and also why you should invest in print for your wedding day images! So to begin, a lot of photographers tend to offer at least some sort of print in their packages. Whether that be an album, parent albums, various prints, canvas wraps or anything in-between, I always recommend at least printing some of your wedding images to have something you can physically hold in your hands! Many couples will just go for the USB of images for their wedding packages and that is perfectly okay! I am not here to tell you what package to book or to tell you to spend thousand’s of dollars on albums but I am here to say that it is something you will treasure for the rest of your life and have to show your grandkids one day!

So lets start with the why you should invest in an album or at least some prints for your wall! Having that USB is great and being able to share all of your images on Facebook and Instagram is an awesome way to spread your images around for all family and friends to see, but it is also one of many ways images can be displayed and honestly do you want to just have your beautiful images on a USB or on your hard drive for the rest of your life? Wouldn’t you rather say “Hey I got my wedding album want to take a look, my photographer did amazing!” or “Look at the lovely canvas wrap I got of my favourite wedding photo!”

It is just so nice to have something that you can touch, feel and hold to show people your images instead of someone just clicking like on social media! Also many times an image will look absolutely amazing printed on canvas or in an album, just imagine all the excited family members and friends when they get to see such beautiful prints from their loved ones wedding day! I know personally that my grandparents would much rather see some prints of images rather then me showing them a bunch on my phone!

So say you have decided to go ahead and invest in an album. Well the number one question I get when it comes time to choose your images is, you guessed it, how do I choose which ones!

So some tips,

1. Choose your favourites!

This seems silly and pretty simple but of course you want to be able to show your absolute favourite images from your day! Wether that be the moment your groom saw you walking down the aisle, that portrait you got with your dog or just your favourite image together, make sure to add those images to your list for your album!

2. Choose a nice variety!

Make sure you are choosing a nice variety of images for your album as well. Include getting ready images, ceremony images, bridal party and reception! You don’t just want to fill your album with all images of you and your groom you want to be able to tell the story of your day, which leads me to tip 3…

3. Tell the story of your wedding day!

As photographers our job is to tell the story of your wedding day and your album should do the same thing! I always design my couples albums from the start of the day with getting ready to the end of the reception so that when you are flipping through you get a sense of the whole day. Make sure you are choosing images that allow your photographer to also design your album to tell your story!

As always I hope this blog post was helpful and educational about wedding albums and prints and also how to choose your photos! Again if you ever have questions, ask your photographer, they are there to help you!

Sincerely,

Michelle
