The 5 Most Important Things to do BEFORE Booking your Wedding Photographer

Touching on a brand new subject on the blog today! This is something that I feel is beneficial to new couples at the beginning of their wedding planning journey. You probably know what vendors you will need and want to secure for your wedding (venue, photographer, videographer, florist etc.), but it can be tough to figure out when vendors should be booked. So today on the blog I am sharing the 5 most important things to do BEFORE booking your wedding photographer!

A photographer is going to be one of the most important vendors on your wedding day! You will be spending a lot of time with them. When your wedding day is over all you will have to remember the day are the photos captured. This is why it is so important to make sure these 5 things are done before beginning your search. So lets dive in shall we?

Tip 1: Choose your Wedding Date

This might be a given, but you need to make sure you have a date chosen for your event before searching for vendors. Vendors, especially photographers, typically book only one event per day and hold that date for you for months, and sometimes, even years. Without a date in place, your photographer cannot commit to your wedding!

Tip 2: Secure your Venue

This goes hand in hand with tip 1. In addition to choosing your wedding date, you also want to have your venue booked before even looking into photographers. There is a chance your date will end up changing around the availability of the venue. Therefore, make sure to have a date and venue secured before starting that photographer search!

Tip 3: Pick your Style

These days, there are so many different styles of photography out there. From dark and moody to light and airy, you want to make sure you have an idea of what style suits your aesthetic. This will narrow the field on what photographers to look for. If you are looking for a true-to-colour photographer, then there is no point on meeting with photographers with other styles.

Tip 4: Set a Realistic Budget

It goes without saying that weddings are expensive, but something you should definitely not cheap out on is your photographer! As mentioned above, the photos are all you will have after your day is all said and done. You want to make sure you set a realistic budget to be able to book a reputable photographer who is going to give you amazing service and a stunning product. During these crazy pandemic times, you also want to make sure you are investing into a professional who will be able to help you navigate through the ever-changing rules of the pandemic and still be in business when your wedding day finally comes!

Tip 5: Book a Call

Always book a call, a video chat or an in-person meeting with the photographers you are interested in working with. This will give you a sense of who they are and if you mesh well together. You spend a lot of time with your photographer on the wedding day and leading up to it. You want to make sure your personalities jive well together and that their services and style meet your needs. Another big thing to consider is, what are you specifically looking for out of your wedding photography? Are the wedding details a must have? Or are you far more interested in lots of candid moments? You want to make sure you hire a photographer who aligns with your vision for the day!
