Rainy Wedding Day Tips & Tricks ~ Michelle A Photo

Rainy Wedding Day Tips & Tricks

Hello March!

Kicking off this new month with another helpful resource blog for all of you planning couples out there. One thing no one wants to ever think about is the possibility of rain on their wedding day, but it is something that you can be prepared for. With the weather in Ontario usually being completely unpredictable, it is best to have a plan in place for rain, cause unfortunately no one can control the weather! As much as I wish I could!

So today, I am sharing 4 tips and tricks for how to be prepared in the event of a rainy wedding day!

1. Get Clear Umbrellas

Clear umbrellas photograph wonderfully and are incredibly easy to come by. Purchasing enough for you and your wedding party will ensure a back-up plan that doesn’t effect the location of your photos. Plus they are an easy resell after your wedding day, couples are always looking for umbrellas in wedding swap and sell groups, so you should be able to make some money back from the purchase!

2. Find an Indoor Option

Obviously outdoors is preferred, especially in the case of couples and wedding party portraits. But sometimes the weather isn’t going to allow for that to happen. In the event of a true torrential downpour having an indoor option as a back-up is a wonderful choice. When I say indoor option, I suggest reaching out to your photographer and venue for suggestions. Green Houses are my preferred choice and I do know some around the London area will let you in for photos. The pandemic may have changed this option but it is worth the reach out. Green Houses are great because they offer beautiful even lighting and lots of pretty backgrounds!

3. Find Covered Areas Around your Venue

This may not always be an option but one to look into. For example venues like Bellamere Winery and Ivey Spencer Leadership Centre both have some covered options such as covered patios and archways. It will limit a variety in locations, but the trade off is getting images outdoors and taking advantage of the scenery and lighting. Which will ultimately lead to better images!

4. Embrace It

Unfortunately, no one can control the weather and rain is a possibility no matter what season you choose to get married in. At the end of the day, you get to marry your best friend so do your best to just embrace whatever the weather is doing and go with the flow. They say rain on your wedding day is good luck after all and better yet, rain makes for some amazing night photos!
