Wedding Planning Tips from a Bride! ~ Wedding Planning London Ontario

Wedding Planning Tips from a Bride!

Wedding Planning London Ontario

It’s finally here! I am saying I Do this Saturday, it is so surreal to me that it is almost here after a year and a half of planning! Tylor proposed on August 8th 2015 and since then we have been working on booking amazing vendors, creating guests lists and generally planning our special day! I thought since my wedding is almost here that a good thing to post on the blog today would be 5 wedding planning tips from me as a bride instead of a wedding photographer!

I figured this would be a nice read for brides planning their days so that they can relate a little bit better to another bride who has gone through all the crazy ups and downs that is wedding planning. So I sat down this past weekend and went over the 5 biggest tips that I could offer to all you lovely brides, grooms and families out there!

So lets get started!

Tip Number One:

Make sure to book the venue and vendors you want as soon as possible!

I know for me, because I am in the industry, I had vendors in mind that I wanted to book. Obviously this wasn’t the case for all of my vendors but it was for my photographer and DJ. If you have vendors or a venue in mind I would recommend booking these right away to assure that they won’t already be booked up for your date! I suggest once you have a date set, a venue booked then begin searching for your other lovely wedding day vendors. This tip is especially true if you choose a date that is prime wedding season such as June-October! Vendors book up quick so make sure to get on that once you find one you LOVE!

Tip Number Two:

Hire a Wedding Day Coordinator!

I know I have preached this before as a photographer but honestly as a bride I think I vouch for this even more! When I told my fiance that I HAD to have a coordinator, he was a little confused and didn’t quite understand the reasoning behind it. If I am being perfectly honest, I can be a little be obsessive when it comes to the details of things especially important events and I knew that I would want someone there to take the pressure off me to make sure everything was running smooth! Once I explained this, Tylor was 100% on board and I am so thankful for Amy from Unmistakably You and her team! Our wedding hasn’t even happened yet and she has made sure everything is on track, she even had stuff to tell me that I had no idea about and I know I will be so happy to have this trusted team making our day awesome!

Tip Number Three:

If you can, pay your vendors ahead of time!

This is a tip that my fiance and I did end up doing for some of our vendors and I am so glad we did! It took a lot of pressure off of us and our wallets to have our photographer, DJ and venue paid well before the month of our wedding! It’s no secret that weddings are expensive and a lot of couples pay for their weddings themselves now a days (sometimes with help from family), being able to pay some vendors early will for sure take stress off of you leading up to your big day!

Tip Number Four:

If you need help, just ask!

Now again, as much as I hate to admit this I am pretty obsessive with the details of things and our wedding is one of those things! Which pretty much means I wanted to handle a lot of the planning, DIYing and  details myself but I would find myself stressing hard because of how much pressure I was putting on myself for everything to be done and perfect. It hit a point where I just couldn’t anymore and began asking my fiance and sister also my Maid of Honor for some help. If you are like me and are determined to be a one women army, asking for help is totally okay and honestly it might help save some of your sanity!

Tip Number Five:

Put lots of thought into your schedule and timeline for the day!

The last thing you want is not leaving enough time for photos or not factoring in the travel time between venues! Especially at this lovely time of year where there is literally construction everywhere. Your vendors will be able to help you with timelines and schedules so if you don’t quite know how long things will take just ask! I know for me hair and makeup was my number one big question when it came time for the whole itinerary of the day. As a photographer I always begin the day after or at the end of hair and makeup being done so I had no idea how long everything would actually take!

Bonus Tip:

This one is probably a little of both a photographer and a bride but think about where your images will be taken for getting ready and have everything laid out and ready to go for all the detail shots! Natural light is a photographer best friend and will also add to your images making them look more natural so make sure to think about that when deciding on a getting ready location!
