Julia and Matt’s Summer Wedding Day!

A lovely wedding day is making it’s way onto the blog today, I am still so glad that despite the craziness of the wedding industry right now couples still got married last year! Julia and Matt were planning their 10 hour wedding day at Windermere Manor before the pandemic hit and like so many other couples had to make a ton of adjustments to their special day. No matter what, they decided they were getting married on their original date of August 16th and moved their wedding from London to Sarnia at Julia’s parents home. Even with all the craziness they had to deal with, Julia and Matt’s day was absolutely perfect and I am so excited to share all about it today!
When I first met with Julia and Matt we had a pretty normal consultation, we chatted about how they met and their wedding day plans but then near the end of our meeting Julia and I realized we have one super amazing thing in common! We are both totally obsessed with Ru Paul’s Drag Race! We got chatting about our favourite queens and seasons and I could not have been happier when her and Matt decided to book me to be their wedding photographer.
After that Julia and I would always add a PS at the bottom of every email to add our thoughts on new seasons of Drag Race or anything else going on in the Drag Race world!
My amazing second shooter Jocelyn from Aster and Lily Photography and I made the drive out to Sarnia Ontario on the morning of Julia and Matt’s wedding day and let me tell you the weather was less then ideal. We drove through a literal torrential downpour on our way there and the weather continued to be wild all day. From insane rain to super bright sun we got every type of weather (except for snow thank god) imaginable. But that didn’t stop Julia and Matt from tying the knot!
We began the day with Matt capturing him getting ready with his brother, nephew and best man. My favourite thing to do is ask if the groom or groomsmen ever have any ideas or photos they want captured. Why you ask, because that is how you get amazing images of the groom and his best man skipping elegantly through a field! There were so many amazing moments from Julia and Matt’s day but watching Matt and his best friend leap through that field is definitely one of the best!
We then drove over to Julia’s parents home to capture her get ready with her two maids of honour. Unfortunately due to Covid her one maid of honour could not attend as she lives in England but she was present through video chat at all important moments through the day! We captured Julia’s details, her getting ready and then maybe the best moment of my entire career. Julia’s maid of honours got her a Cameo video from one of her and Matt’s favourite drag queens, Heidi N Closet. I have shared about this moment on social media before but I had to include the photos Jocelyn captured in this post as well! It was just the best moment ever!!
The rest of the day as full of beach photos in the rain, family photos in the sun, a super sweet ceremony and some candid moments. We ended the day pretty early before they headed off to dinner at a nearby restaurant and we made the drive home, in much nicer weather.
It was such an honour to meet Julia and Matt and I wish them so much happiness in their lives together!
